Arjun Munda’s attack on PESA law, said – Government is crushing the rights of tribals, liquor policy is anti-people

Chaibasa. Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Arjun Munda on Sunday in West Singhbhum district attacked the Jharkhand government on the occasion of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Jayanti. During the program organized at the District BJP office in Chaibasa, in a press conference, he raised serious questions on the policies of the state government regarding the delay in the implementation of PESA law, neglect of panchayats and the new liquor policy.

Arjun Munda said that during his tenure, panchayat elections were successfully conducted in the state so that the Gram Sabha and Panchayats are empowered, but the current government has not yet given real rights to the Panchayats. He said that the PESA law is to strengthen the traditional administrative and social structure of the tribal society, but the state government is not at all serious in implementing it. He demanded that the PESA rules should be made soon so that the Panchayats can get their legal rights and the rural system can be strengthened.

He also cornered the government on the new liquor policy. He said that the government is promoting liquor sale in panchayat areas only for the purpose of increasing revenue, due to which the social fabric of the villages is getting affected. He said in a sharp tone that deaths are continuously occurring due to drinking poisonous liquor, but there is no one to take responsibility for these deaths. To control the sale of liquor, he demanded that only licensed shops should be allowed to sell so that the business of illegal liquor can be stopped and lives of people can be saved.

The former Union Minister said that the state government has not been able to prepare the real list of landless and displaced people till date, due to which the benefits of development schemes are not reaching the real needy. He alleged deliberate delay in the process of land mutation and said that the non-appointment of a permanent commissioner in Kolhan division shows administrative weakness.

Munda said that this government is crushing the rights of tribals, panchayats and displaced people. The public will now have to organize and raise their voice for their rights so that the identity and dignity of the tribal society can be protected in the state.
