Guwa: After the death of former SAIL employee Ranjan Das in Kiriburu based SAIL hospital, a tense situation arose in the hospital premises on Sunday. The family of the deceased along with representatives of various labour unions and local people gathered in the hospital premises with the body and blamed the negligence of the hospital management for the death.
The family alleged that Ranjan Das was suffering from a serious problem of kidney failure for a long time and was undergoing regular dialysis. Despite this, he was not referred to a bigger hospital on time, due to which he lost his life. The deceased’s brother Sanjay Das said that Ranjan Das was discharged from the hospital two days ago and returned home. But on the morning of July 6, when his health suddenly deteriorated, he was brought back to the SAIL hospital. According to Sanjay Das, the doctors started first aid, but within a short time Ranjan Das died. He said that this is a case of gross negligence of the hospital management. However, the management says that special initiative was taken in Ranjan Das’ case and the referral process was taken forward through the file. But due to the implementation of ‘SAP’ system in SAIL, Ranjan Das’ name was not visible in the system due to technical reasons, which created a hindrance in the referral.
SAIL management also clarified that a similar situation had arisen in the case of CGM Dhirendra Mishra’s wife earlier. After Ranjan Das’ death, his family members, members of the labor union and local people have been sitting in the hospital premises with the body for hours. To calm the situation, many senior officials of SAIL management reached the spot and tried to convince the family members to take the body for cremation. After the incident, labor unions have termed Ranjan Das’ death as institutional negligence and demanded a high-level investigation into the matter.
